The Wikipedia Definition of a Netlabel (www.wikipedia.org)
A netlabel, also called online label, web label or mp3 label,
distributes its music in digital audio formats (mainly MP3 or OGG)
through the web. Netlabels often work like classic record labels. In
general they use guerrilla marketing to promote their work, because of
no incoming fees.
The main difference between netlabels and record labels is that
netlabels normally don't publish music on sound storage mediums like CD,
vinyl or DVD. Often the music is released under freely distributable
terms such as the Creative Commons Licenses but keep the copyright of
the artist.
