Blocking those annoying Ads by Goooooogle on web pages

2005-05-10 10:14:00
Don't you hate the way people are littering their pages with Ads by Goooooogle. You're not going to click on those links are you? So why not hide that annoying extra text.

To hide the Ads by Goooooogle just add the following two entries to your hosts file.

127.0.0.1     pagead1.googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1     pagead2.googlesyndication.com

This hack will work for any browser and will work on Linux and Apple OS X. If you're using Windows XP your hosts file is located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Open the file in Notepad to make the additional entries. Save the hosts file. Close all your browsers or reboot your computer.

If you are using Firefox you can also use the Greasemonkey extension to modify the way other peoples pages are displayed. Find more information on the Greasemonkey extension here.
